With Allied delegations in the background and facing the Japanese officials across the table, General (Gen) Douglas MacArthur signs the surrender document on behalf of the Allied Powers. Standing behind Gen MacArthur are, recently released prisoners of war (POWs), Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Jonathan Wainwright, US Army and Lt Gen A. E. Percival, British Army. The Allied delegations are lined up behind their delegation leader waiting their turn to sign the surrender document. Left to right: Admiral Chester W.
