With Allied delegations in the background and facing the Japanese officials across the table, General (Gen) Douglas MacArthur signs the surrender document on behalf of the Allied Powers. Standing behind Gen MacArthur are, recently released prisoners of war (POWs), Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Jonathan Wainwright, US Army and Lt Gen A. E. Percival, British Army.
