Liberated 8th Division men at the Changi prisoner of war (POW) camp in Singapore carrying rice from the mess. Their tin gives an indication of the limited rations supplied to 250 men. Identified left is NX26367 Private (Pte) Allan Claude 'Speed' Smith, 2/30th Battalion of Annandale, NSW. Pte Smith's father, Allan Alexander Smith served in the First World War with the 6th Light Horse Light (3312 Driver Smith) and again in the Second World War, (NX51173 Sergeant Smith). The serviceman assisting Smith to his left is unknown.
