Description

Changi Prison Camp. Singapore. c. October 1945. After three and a half years of having to walk wherever they had to go, these five Victorians enjoy a run round in a borrowed car. Left to right: VX41688 Sapper Kenneth Laity of Malvern, Vic; VX61712 Sapper John Wilbur Barker of Berwick, Vic; VX27772 Sapper Charles Horkings of Camberwell, Vic; VX22811 Sapper Jim Fennell of Pakenham, Vic; VX54400 Sapper Harry Ellerington of Wonthaggi, Vic. All five were members of the 2/10th Field Company Royal Australian Engineers (RAE). It is thought that VX42045 Sapper Harry Woodhead,, and post war to become the father-in-law to Sapper Ellerington, is one of the men observing in the background.
