Tobruk, Libya. 1941-07. The operating theatre of the 2/4th Australian General Hospital, in which all major surgical operations from the Tobruk fortress were performed during the period April-September 1941. It was bomb-proof against all except a direct hit but suffered several near misses. In the centre is Sergeant Carroll, an X-ray technician at the hospital. (Donor Sergeant Maxwell)
