WESTERN DESERT, EGYPT. 1942-08-08. DUD (UNEXPLODED) ENEMY SHELLS. A SHELL FROM "ALAMEIN ANNE" FEMALE RELATION OF THE MORE CELEBRATED "BARDIA BILL", IS IN THE EXTREME RIGHT. FOURTH FROM THE LEFT IS A SHELL OF FRENCH MANUFACTURE. ("BARDIA BILL" WAS THE NICKNAME GIVEN TO A LONG RANGE ENEMY GUN BY TROOPS OF THE 6TH AUSTRALIAN DIVISION WHEN IT WAS CONCENTRATING ITS FIRE ON BARDIA IN 1941. NO DOUBT THE ALAMEIN VARIETY HAS BEEN NAMED "ANNE" TO RETAIN THE ALLITERATION.).
