SINGAPORE. 1945-09-05. MEMBERS OF 8TH AUSTRALIAN DIVISION EX-PRISONERS OF WAR OF THE JAPANESE ENJOYING THEIR FIRST TOUR OF THE CITY FOR OVER THREE AND A HALF YEARS CHATTING AT THE INTERSECTION OF HILL STREET AND STAMFORD ROAD. A traffic policeman can be seen directing traffic. IDENTIFIED PERSONNEL ARE:- PRIVATE (PTE) R. J. MATTERS, 13TH GENERAL HOSPITAL (1); PTE C. COX, 13TH GENERAL HOSPITAL (2); PTE D. E. WILLIAMS, 10TH GENERAL HOSPITAL (3). In the background can be seen the distinctive tower of the historic Hill Street (Central) Fire Station which was designated a World Heritage Site on 18 December 1998.
