Townsville, Qld. 30 June 1942. Some new arrivals to No. 76 Fighter Squadron RAAF. Squadron Leader (Sqn Ldr) Peter Turnbull DFC, on the right, greets (from left), Pilot Officer E. G. Tainton; Flight Lieutenant Clive N. Wawn DFC; and Squadron Leader K. W. Truscott DFC and Bar. The latter three were members of the famous No. 452 Australian Spitfire Squadron in England during the Battle of Britain and after. Sqn Ldr Turnbull was one of the original pilots of an equally famous No. 3 Squadron which fought through the Middle East.
