Description

Japanese air raids on Townsville caused little damage and few casualties. However, the danger of unexploded bombs was ever present, particularly to Allied shipping using the harbour. The 2nd and 3rd sections of a Bomb Disposal Company searches the shallows in Townsville Harbour for evidence of bombs. The squad is led by QX42377 Lieutenant William George Solomon Huxley of Wooloowin, Qld; and includes Sapper Mens of Brisbane, Qld, (believed to be either QX29106 Sapper Frederick Richard Mens of 18 Field Company of his brother QX22521 Sapper Harold Francis Mens of 18 Field Company); Corporal Smith of Brisbane, Qld; and QX29768 Sapper Frederick Van Doorn of Ingham, Qld.
