Description
An outstanding feat of railroad construction is now nearing completion. Australian, British and South African engineers supervising an army of some 20,000 labourers of many nationalities have constructed the link between the important sea ports of Haifa and Tripoli to give an unbroken rail connection between Turkey, Syria, Palestine and Libya. About 80 per cent of this new link is solid rock involving long stretches of tunnelling, bridging and solid cutting. Here a tunnel is being driven through solid rock.
