Description

Collection relating to the First World War service of 1901 Sergeant Robert William Wyllie Adam, 11 Battalion, AIF, Gallipoli and France, 1914-1916.

Folder 1 - Thirty nine letters written by Sgt Adam to his mother, Mrs Jane Emily Adam in Hampstead, England. The letters are dated between 1914 and 1916 and were written from Australia (Blackboy Hill WA), Egypt, Gallipoli and France. The letters are well-written and provide good descriptions of places visited, daily activities, training, camp and trench conditions, rations and comforts, illness and hospitals amongst other things.

Folder 2 - Two letters written by 2631 Sergeant Guy Clifton Lukin in 1916 from France. The letters describe the wounding and death of Sgt Adam in July at Pozieres.

Folder 3 - A condolence letter written by General William Birdwood, Commander 1st Anzac Corp France, August 1916, to Sgt Adam's mother.
