Description

Collection (photostat copies and original manuscript) relating to the First World War service of Lieutenant Wilfred Emmott Addison, 18 Battalion, Egypt and Gallipoli, 1915. Collection consists of a diary in the form of a letter describing voyage to, and hospital activities in, Cairo. Also included are letters to Addison's mother detailing his activities in Egypt and preparation for Gallipoli. There is also a photostat copy of a signal giving landing instructions for the battalion at Gallipoli, and letters of condolence following Addison's death on 22 August 1915.

History / Summary

Diary entry for 12 August 1915 describes awareness of Gallipoli losses and Addison's application for discharge from hospital in order to join the battalion for the relief operation to Gallipoli - 'It would be awful to be left.'

Biographical note: 2nd Lieutenant Wilfred Emmott Addison, 18 Battalion, AIF. Killed in action, Gallipoli, 22 Aug 1915. Age 28. Son of Glentworth and Harriet Binning Addison of Emmott Castle Hill Rd., Baulkham Hills, New South Wales, Native of Yass, NSW.
