Akers, Charles Alfred (Lance Corporal, b.? - d.1917)
Typewritten copies of letters from Lance Corporal Charles Alfred Akers, 35 Battalion, 16 December 1916 - 6 October 1917. Letters were written to his mother and describe voyage over via South Africa; training in England, and active service in France until being killed in action at Passchendaele, 13 October 1917. Copies made 1927 and bound into AWM file cover. Location of originals unknown.
Letters relate details of military operations although the locations of particular activities are not stated. A number of Akers' friends and relatives are mentioned in the letters.
Biographical note: 2516 Lance Corporal Charles Alfred Akers, 35 Battalion, Australian Infantry. Killed in action, Passchendaele area, 13 October 1917. Son of Alfred and Mary Ellen Akers of Kulnura, New South Wales. Native of Locksley, Victoria.
