Description
Collection relating to the service of Lieutenant George Gilmour Allardyce, 4 Battalion, Gallipoli and France, 1914-1918. Collection comprises typewritten extracts of diary and typewritten copies of letters detailing activities of Allardyce while attached to the 4 Field Ambulance, 14 Field Ambulance and with 4 Battalion. Copies made by Australia House, London, 1928 in response to Memorial's request. Location of originals unknown.
History / Summary
Comprehensive coverage of ambulance service activities in Gallipoli and France, with comments on world events as well as reports of Allardyce's own activities at the front line. Gallipoli Landing is described, as are subsequent events in that area.
Biographical note: Lieutenant George Gilmour Allardyce, 4 Battalion, Australian Infantry. Died at Oxford, 18 May 1918, from wounds received in France. Age 22. Born in Dublin. Son of George and Janet S Allardyce of 'Viewmount', Archiestown, Carron-on-Spey, Morayshire. An undergraduate of Trinity College Dublin.
