Bracher, Albert Victor (Sergeant. b.1887 - d.1916)

Collection relating to service of 38 Sergeant Albert Victor Bracher MM, 25 Battalion, Gallipoli, 1915. Collection consists of three short extracts from letters written from Gallipoli to family in England, and biographical details concerning Bracher. Extracts made by Australian War Memorial in London 1927. Location of originals unknown. Sgt Bracher died on 29 July 1916.

Biographical note: 38 Sergeant Albert Victor Bracher MM, 25 Battalion, Australian Infantry. Killed in Action, 29 July 1916, Pozieres. Age 29. Son of Alfred Henry and Ann Mary Bracher, of Tregantle, Charlton Kings, Cheltenham, England. Born at Norton, Worcester, England. Other biographical details concerning him are: cane grower; of Mount Bauple, Queensland; born Norton, Worcestershire, England, 8 July 1887; educated at the Holy Apostle school, Charlton Kings, Gloucestershire, England; served in the British Navy for six years (joining at the age of 16) and was in HMS Montague when that vessel was wrecked off Lundy Island in 1906; came to Australia at the age of 22 and took up sugar-cane farming; enlisted in the AIF on 15 January 1915, being promoted a lance-sergeant; embarked from Australia on 29 June 1915; promoted sergeant 7 July 1915; served in Gallipoli, Egypt and France; awarded the Military Medal at Anzac.
