Collection relating to service of Lieutenant Edward Lionel Austin Butler, 12 Battalion, France, 1916. Collection includes an account by Dr C. E. W. Bean of the death and burial of his cousin, Lieutenant Edward Lionel Austin Butler from wounds received at Mouquet Farm, 22-23 August 1916.

History / Summary

The account was written to Butler's father as the family was related to C. E. W. Bean. This copy was sent to the Memorial by Butler's father in 1927 in response to a request for material relating to his son.

Biographical note: 2nd Lieutenant Edward Lionel Austin Butler, 12 Battalion, Australian Infantry. Died of wounds 23 August 1916. Son of Edward Henry and Fanny Amy Butler, of Sandy Bay, Hobart Tasmania.
