Description

Collection relating to service of Lieutenant Arthur Percy Earle, 6 Machine Gun Company, Egypt, Gallipoli, France and Belgium, 1916. Collection includes letters written home to family in Australia. Letters were selected and sent in response to a request made to the family by the Memorial in 1928.

History / Summary

Biographical note: Lieutenant, 6th Mg Coy, AIF. From file AWM93 0012/0011/1042: Died on 24 July 1917 of wounds received at Bullecourt. Farmer; of Marshall, VIC; born Marshalltown; educated at Grovedale State School; joined AIF on 23 March 1915, sailing from Australia on May 8 as a Private in 24 Battalion; served Egypt; landed ANZAC in September 1915 and stayed until the evacuation; arrived in France, March 1916; received his commission in November 1916; age at time of death 26. Five cousins also died World War 1 -- see Roll of Honour Circular AWM131.
