Description

Collection relating to service of Lt George Peacock Edwards, 1 Australian Light Horse, Egypt, 1916. Collection comprises 2 pocket notebooks which contains what apperars to be a nominal roll of 'B' Troop, 'B' Squadron, 1st A.L.H Regiment, and other notes concerning personnel of the unit, an official ticket for affixing to deceased soldier's kit, a 1916 dinner menu from Cairo with signatures on the verso, a Soldier's War Stock application form, and a copy of a message received by the N.Z(?) Mounted Division from His Majesty the King and General Birdwood on the occasion of the success at Romani.

History / Summary

Biographical note: Served with 1st Light Horse Regiment. Service number 80 as on Embarkation Roll. Died of meningitis at Cairo 20 November 1916. Grazier of Turramurra, NSW; born Melbourne; educated Sydney Church of England Grammar School; joined AIF 4 October 1914; age at time of death 27 years.
