Collection relating to the service of 3305 Private Gordon Edmund Ewart, 58 Battalion, France 1916-1918. Collection includes a typewritten extracts from a letter and a diary.
History / Summary
Biographical note: Private, 58th Bn, AIF. 1 October 1918 killed in action at Bellicourt. Clerk, of Lilydale, VIC, born Windsor, VIC a descendant of Charles Ewart of the Scots Greys who captured an eagle from the 45th Regiment at Waterloo; educated Montrose State School, joined AIF 3 August 1915, fought at Fleurbaix and on the Somme, at Morchies, Bapaume, Bullecourt, Ypres, Polygon Wood, Westhoek Ridge, Messines, Villers-Bretonneux, Morlancourt and Bellicourt; age at time of death 20 years 8 months.
