Collection relating to service of 2147 Private Ernest Arthur Gibbs, 1 Battalion AIF, Egypt, England and France. Collection includes letters written by Gibbs to his parents in England, between January 1916 and August 1917, and a Field Ambulance note.

History / Summary

Biographical note: Private Ernest Arthur Gibbs, 1 Battalion AIF, who on 3 October 1917, was killed in action at Polygon Wood, near Ypres. Other biographical details concerning him are: solicitor's clerk (in England) and ship's steward on the Australian coast; of Sydney, NSW, born New Cross, London, educated at London Road School, Southend on Sea, England; came to Australia when 23 years old; age at time of death 29; was wounded at Anzac, and again at Pozieres.
