Collection relating to the service of Major Ernest Alfred Knight Hudson, DSO, Anzac Mounted Divisional HQ, Egypt, 1915-1918. Collection includes letters written by Hudson to his wife in Australia, which contain detailed accounts of his military activities, including the Battle of Romani and the surrender of El Arish.

History / Summary

Biographical note: Seconded to Staff Captain Anzac Mounted Division Headquarters, AIF. Storekeeper; of Katoomba, NSW; born Erskinville, NSW, 27 October 1872; educated at Sydney High School; served for 21 years with the NSW Lance and Australian Light Horse; appointed a Captain of the 1st Light Horse Regiment, AIF, on 6 September 1915; was in command of the composite light horse regiment sent towards the end of 1915 from Egypt with the Western Frontier Force, and was wounded in action at Mersa Matruh against the Senussi; appointed staff captain, 1 Light Horse Brigade, 11 May 1916; promoted Major, 1 December 1916; appointed DAAG, Anzac Mounted Division HQ, 12 August 1918.
