Kerr, Alan James (Lieutenant, b.1895 - d.1916)
Collection relating to the service of Lieutenant Alan James Kerr, 24 Battalion, AIF, Gallipoli, Lemnos, France, 1915-1916. Collection consists of typescript copies of three letters written by Lieutenant Kerr to his mother and father in Australia, and typescript copies of two poems written by Kerr. This collection contains a lengthy and detailed first-hand description of a trench raid which took place on the night of 29 June 1916. Location of original letters unknown.
Biographical note: Lieutenant Alan James Kerr, 24 Battalion, AIF, who on 27 July 1916 was killed at Pozieres. Other biographical details concerning him are : - Bank clerk (Union Bank, Melbourne); of Camberwell, Vic.; born Auburn, Victoria; educated at Wesley College, Melbourne; was an officer in the senior cadets, and also served in the Citizens Forces; age at time of death, 21.
