Description

Collection relating to the service of 1948 Warrant Officer George Norman Mackie MSM, 27 Battalion and 7 Infantry Brigade HQ, at sea, Egypt, Lemnos, France, 1915-1918. Collection consists of seventy-five letters written by W/O Mackie to family members in Australia, and a diary kept by W/O Mackie between 16 August 1915 and 9 June 1916. Collection also includes one letter from 3050 Driver [later Staff Sergeant] Edward Clough, 2 Field Artillery Brigade, written to Mrs. E. Mackie, 10 February 1918, and a leaflet advertising The Star restaurant in Alexandria.

Note: This collection was previously attributed to 11873 Bombardier Norman Mackie, of Melbourne. However, further research has established that the letters and the diary in this collection were written by 1948 Warrant Officer George Norman Mackie MSM.
