Collection relating to the service of Captain Albert McLeod, 16 Battalion, AIF, Egypt, Gallipoli, France, 1914-1916. Collection consists of photostat copies of a diary kept by McLeod, a lengthy obituary of Captain McLeod published in a West Australian newspaper, and a letter of condolence written to McLeod's widow by a woman who had witnessed McLeod's death and who attended his funeral. Photostat copies made by Australian War Memorial. Location of originals unknown.

History / Summary

Biographical note: Captain Albert McLeod, 16 Battalion, AIF, who on 5 December 1916 was accidentally killed at Corsock, Scotland. Other biographical details concerning him are: of Katanning, Western Australia; born Katanning; educated at Christian Brothers College, Perth, WA; enlisted in the AIF on 21 September 1914 as a private soldier; served with 16 Battalion in Egypt, Gallipoli, and France. Being unfit for further service, he was on leave waiting to return to Australia when he was accidentally killed, age at time of death, 25 years.
