Description
Collection relating to the service of Lieutenant Eric Claude Main, 52 Battalion AIF, France, 1916. The collection consists of a typescript copy of a letter Main wrote to his mother on 2 September 1916, in which he describes the recent heavy fighting. Lieutenant Main was killed at Mouquet Farm the following day.

Biographical note: Lieutenant Eric Claude Main, 52 Battalion AIF, who on 3 September 1916 was killed in action during an attack on Mouquet Farm (Pozieres). Other biographical details concerning him are: Insurance manager; of Brisbane, Queensland, born Brisbane; educated at Fort Street Public School, Sydney; joined the AIF on 14 September 1915; age at time of death, 26.
