The collection consists of a bound volume made by the Australian War Memorial, entitled 'Letters of Capt. G. L. Maxfield, M.C.' The volume contains photostat copies of numerous letters written by Captain Gordon Maxfield to his parents; a studio portrait photograph of Captain Maxfield (in uniform); photostat copies of newspaper clippings; Red Cross Enquiry Bureau messages, and a letter of condolence written by 62 Sergeant William Henry Davey, 24 Battalion. Biographical note: Captain Gordon Loris Maxfield, MC, 24 Battalion, AIF. Killed in action, 3 May, 1917, at Bullecourt, aged 28. Son of James Edward and Jane Maxfield, of Euroa, Victoria. Born at Longwood, Victoria. Other biographical details concerning him are: Secretary; of Euroa, Victoria; educated at the Euroa State School.
