Collection relating to the service of 1030 Corporal Arnold Selwyn Metcalfe, 1 Australian Light Horse Regiment, Palestine, Egypt, 1916-1918. Collection consists of photostat copies of ten letters written by Corporal Metcalfe, while on active service, to his brother Harry in Australia. Also in the collection is a photostat copy of a letter of condolence written by Trooper Thomas Stephen Walsh, 1 Light Horse Regiment, to Harry Metcalfe.

History / Summary

Biographical note: 1030 Corporal Arnold Selwyn Metcalfe, 1 Light Horse regiment, AIF who died on 19 April 1918 of wounds received east of Jericho. Other biographical details concerning him are: bank clerk; of Young, NSW, born Young; son of Charles Joseph and Laura Annie Metcalfe, of Young; educated at the Young district school; joined the AIF on 23 February 1915; age at time of death, 24.
