Ruddle, Charles Henry (Lieutenant, b.1886 - d.1916)
Collection relating to the service of Lieutenant Charles Henry Ruddle, 2 Light Horse Regiment and 9 Battalion, AIF, Egypt, Gallipoli, Lemnos, 1914-1915. Collection consists of photostat copies of seven letters written by Ruddle to his parents. Copies made by Australian War Memorial. Location of originals unknown.
Biographical note: Lieutenant Charles Henry Ruddle, 9 Battalion, AIF, who died on 23 July 1916 of wounds received at Pozieres. Other biographical details concerning him are: school teacher; of Bundaberg, Queensland; born Suva, Fiji, 8 February 1886; educated at a State School in Australia; joined the AIF on 2 September 1914 and left Australia with the 2nd Light Horse Regiment, having on 14 September been promoted Sergeant; was slightly wounded at Anzac and was sent to Egypt suffering from enteric; returned to the Peninsula, and on 30 October 1915 was promoted Company Sergeant Major in the 9th Battalion; 1 March 1916, appointed 2nd Lieutenant; 1 June 1916, appointed Lieutenant; 6 July 1916, appointed Adjutant.
