Simpson, George (Lieutenant, b.?- d.1918)
Collection relating to the service of 721 Lieutenant George Simpson, 6 Battalion, AIF, France, 1918. Collection consists of one letter written by Lieutenant Simpson to his parents, in August 1918.
Biographical note: Lieutenant George Simpson, 6 Battalion AIF, who on 23 August 1918 was killed in action at Cerisy on the Somme. Other biographical details concerning him are: farmer; of Mildura, Victoria; born Harrogate, England; educated at Sidleigh School, Yorkshire; underwent a course at the Guelph Agricultural College, Ontario, Canada; came to Australia when 21 years old; enlisted in the AIF in August 1914 with the Army Service Corps; served in Egypt (including the expedition against the Senussi Arabs on the Eastern Frontier), Gallipoli and France; sent to officers' training school at Cambridge University and was commissioned in August 1917; was wounded in November 1917; age at time of death, 26.
