Collection relating to the service of 2248 Private Thomas Lowbridge Young, 28 Battalion, AIF, Egypt, England, Western Front, 1915-1916. Collection consists of ten letters written by Private Young to his sister Gwen in Canada, between November 1915 and December 1916. Also contains a letter from Private Young's cousin "Fred", sent to Gwen from France in July 1916.

History / Summary

Biographical note: 2248 Private Thomas Lowbridge Young, 28 Battalion, AIF, who died at Heilly, France, on 2 January 1917 of wounds received in the Guedecourt sector. Other biographical details concerning him are: teacher, of Perth, Western Australia; born Bootle, Lancashire, England; educated at Trent College, Derbyshire, and at Cambridge University (BA); came from China to Australia after the outbreak of war, worked for some time at a Tasmanian college, then went to Perth where he enlisted on 26 July 1915 in the AIF; was badly wounded in France in 1916 and was sent to England; returned to France in November; age at time of death, 32. Son of Thomas F. Young, of 213C, Central Avenue, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
