Description
A diary covering the period December 1939 - December 1940, with detailed regular entries covering both training and service in the Middle East. Also includes correspondence from the families of soldiers killed in Greece to whom Smith had written letters of condolance, as well as Smith's service papers (some photocopies), records related to his award of the Distinguished Service Order (DSO), annotated postcards captured from Italian soldiers at Bardia, and obituaries of Smith (1995).
