Studio portrait of 4433 Private (Pte) Herbert Gibbs, a 20 year old farmer of Darkan, WA, who enlisted on 15 February 1916 and embarked from Fremantle, WA aboard HMAT Shropshire on 31 March 1916, with the 11th Reinforcements, 28th Infantry Battalion, 7th Infantry Brigade. Pte Gibbs was killed in action on 27 August 1916 at Pozieres, aged 20 years and 10 months.
