Description

An informal group portrait of the officers and crew of the Australian submarine AE2. The third man from the left in the back row is Abbott, the fourth man from the left in the back row is Vaughan. Front row, left to right: Lieutenant Commander (Lt Cmdr) Haggard, Lt Cmdr Stoker and Lt Cmdr Carly. The AE2 was sunk in the Sea of Marmora by the Turkish torpedo boat Sultan Hissar on 30 April 1915. Note the Turkish guard standing next to the prisoners of war (far left).
