Cropped studio portrait of Private William Jackson VC of the 17th Battalion. Private Jackson was awarded the Victoria Cross for his action in rescuing wounded comrades under heavy shellfire following a raid on German lines near Armentieres, France on 25 June 1916. Private Jackson was himself seriously wounded in the attempt.
