Description

Men of the 1st Light Horse Regiment below Steele's Post at Anzac Cove. Note the hats. The men were ordered not to wear the slouch hat, so some of them cut their hats into admirals' hats, jockeys' caps, and hats of various shapes and sizes. The soldier leaning on the box under the canvas (centre) is Private (Pte) A T Cunningham, and third from left in sailor's cap is Pte C J Gates.
