Description
The famous German raider SMS Emden, which was driven ashore at North Keeling Island, on 9 November 1914, under heavy bombardment from HMAS Sydney and became a total loss. Commanded by Commodore J C T Glossop CB RN, the Sydney achieved victory in the first naval action in which an Australian warship was engaged.
