Group portrait of twenty six officers and men of the 7th Australian Light Horse (7ALH). Most are holding rifles and the trooper seventh from the left, back row, is holding their mascot dog.
The top left corner is annotated with: "List of 7th LH men who were left in the trenches at Anzac to hold them to the last during the evacuation." Twenty eight men from the 7LHR, along with twenty eight men from the 5th Light Horse Regiment, were left to defend Ryrie's Post until the last stage of the evacuation of Anzac Cove in December 1915.
