Portrait of Sister Hettie Maud Gardiner of the Australian Army Nursing Service (AANS). Sister Gardener is wearing a 1916 pattern uniform over which she has fastened a fur collar. She enlisted on 5 May 1915 and served with the 3rd Australian General Hospital during the Gallipoli Campaign and in France and England, and returned to Australia on 16 March 1919. Sister Gardener later became Matron of St Peter's College in Adelaide.
