Description
Depicts a camp scene with Red Cross truck to the left, two horses pulling a wagon heading towards a tent in the middle, surrounded by tents. Daryl Lindsay was the youngest member of the talented Lindsay family that included the artists Lionel, Norman, Percy and Ruby. Lindsay enlisted in the Australian Imperial Forces in 1915. He served in France as a Private in the Army Service Corps, as a driver, and at the Divisional Headquarters with official war historian and correspondent C E W Bean in 1917. Early in 1918 Lindsay began working as an Official Medical Artist attached to the Queen's Hospital at Sidcup in Kent, England, for which he received the rank honorary lieutenant. Here he produced medical illustrations for plastic surgery.
