Studies on the field of battle
Description
Two soldiers in full uniform, one lying on his stomach, the other seated, overlooking the battlefield. This work is listed as '487 Studies on the field of battle' in a list of sketches by official artists at present at Australia House, London. The two soldiers appear tense and alert. H S Power was an official war artist attached to the 1st Division AIF from 4 September 1917 to 31 March 1920. He was in France between September and December 1917 and again in August 1918. He was commissioned to do work for the Australian War Memorial until 1938.
