Light horseman, mounted
Description
Depicts an Australian Light Horseman, wearing his uniform with rifle, bandolier, haversack, bayonet attached, leggings including his slouch hat with an emu plume, seated as if mounted on a horse (facing the left of the image), although the horse is not drawn. He leans forward arms crossed on pommel, the reins are draped around his left wrist. This and a group of drawings, seem to be studies for Lamberts painting, 'The Charge of the Light Horse at Beersheba' 1920 (Australian War Memorial), which depicts a large body of Australian Light Horsemen on horseback in battle against the Turks. Lambert made several studies for this painting in London in 1920.
