Description

Depicts Sausage Valley, a shallow valley in the Somme, France, that was the scene of heavy fighting during the early stages of the Battle of the Somme. It's name derived from the sausage-like observation balloons the Germans used to monitor the area. With the fall of La Boisselle and Fricourt to the Germans, the British relied heavily on Sausage Valley as a thoroughfare, supply dump and artillery base.
