Description

During the First World War Arthur Streeton joined the Royal Army Medical Corps and worked as an orderly at the 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth. He was appointed an official war artist in May 1918, sent to France and attached to the 2nd Division Australian Imperial Force. Streeton worked mostly around the Somme battlefields until mid-August 1918. He returned to France in October and November when his works concentrated on the destruction around Peronne.
