Masta Bilong Kanaka (Warrant Officer 2 E C Shields)
Description
Depicts a portrait of NGX188 Warrant II E C Shields, of the Australian New Guinea Administration Unit (ANGAU). When the Japanese retreated from villages in the Salmaua area and ransacked the native gardens, the natives were collected by ANGAU and given medical attention and food and as they regained their health they were employed in jobs in which the assistance of native labour is essential. Mr Shields is in charge of the camp in which these natives live, Nassau Bay, New Guinea.
