Sergeant H T Hong Choy
Description
Portrait of Sergeant H T Hong Choy, 6th Division Corps Signals. In the lower right of the image the artist has included some Chinese characters. Sergeant Hong Choy could speak and write in Chinese and Japanese and had a working knowledge of Italian and Yugoslavian. His first duties in the Australian Army were with 6th Division Corps Signals at an interception post. He was then posted to the Central Bureau and worked with the Allied Translator and Interpreter Section. He saw action in the Owen Stanley Range in 1942 .
