Milne Bay mine field picquets (Private Roy Hartley and Sergeant Noel Lovell)
Description
These men are on duty at the mine field firstly, to inform our troops of the presence of the minefield and also to be on the lookout for any small parties of Japanese that may have infiltrated into Allied area. During the three weeks fighting at Milne Bay the rainfall was abnormal. On the left is SX17396 Private Roy Hartly, NX107277 Sergeant Noel Lovell, one sentry could doze while the other carried out his period of duty, Milne Bay, New Guinea.
