Swearing-in ceremony
The Swearing-In of H.R.H The Duke of Gloucester as Governor-General of Australia. The Chief Justice, Sir John Latham, in full bottomed wig is seen administering the Oath of Allegiance to His Royal Highness, stood behind the desk. On the Duke's left is H.R.H. The Duchess of Gloucester and on her left is Mr. John Curtin, Prime Minister of Australia. Mrs. Curtin is on the right of the Duke. The Naval officer in white uniform in foreground is Captain L.S. Bracegirdle R.A.N., Official Secretary to the Governor-General. Stood at the rear are, left to right:- Mr. I. Emerton, Usher of the Black Rod, and members of the Duke's staff, Captain Wynter, Major Hawkins, Brigadier Schrieber, Lieutenant-Commander Robertson, (almost obscured), and Captain Ramsay. The ceremony took place in the Senate Chamber of Parliament House, Canberra.
