Portrait of General Herring
Description
This is a portrait of Major General Edmund Francis Herring CBE DSO MC ED, General Office Commanding 6th Australian Division. He stands, dressed in full military uniform and holding a map. Dargie met with the sitter at some stage between 15th and 20th of December 1941 and had only three hours with him. Dargie noted, "The background of this portrait shows a suggestion of the slopes and snow covered mountains of the ante Lebanon, site of the defence system, which was being built under his direction and supervision".
