1st Australian Water Transport Group
Description
Depicting the 1st Australian Water Transport Group base at Clifton Gardens, Sydney Harbour. Richard Ashton, an artist with the Military History Section, painted a number of works related to Australia's defences during the Second World War. This work depicts anti aircraft guns in place at Middle Head overlooking Sydney Harbour. The presence of anti aircraft guns, fortifications, and camouflage changed the landscape of Sydney Harbour and brough the reality of war closer to home.
