Incident during monsoon, Kyaukpyu (Squadron Leader Terence Roberts and Flying Officer Owen Sanders)
Description
This drawing depicts an incident which occurred in a severe monsoonal storm which swept over the tented camp of No. 117 Squadron, Royal Air Force on the ocean beach at Kyaukpyu, Ramree Island off the Burmese coast. Squadron Leader Terence G.D. Roberts AFC is seen holding onto a guy rope of his wind-tossed tent while Flying Officer Owen H. Sanders is driving in a tent peg with a mallet as they strive against the wind and rain. In the background can be seen a Bengali camp follower carrying water. The two officers were pilots of the Royal Australian Air Force serving with a British Royal Air Force Squadron in Burma, and both received their training under the Empire Air Training Scheme (EATS).
