Tamil from Trichinopoly, Madras
Description
Portrait of a Tamil boy from Trichinopoly, India. The Tamil people are an ancient civilisation, originating from the Indian subcontinent. Tamil communities are spread out all across the world, including Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Singapore, and South Africa. During the Second World War when the Japanese occupied Malaysia the Tamils were, in many instances, regimented into forced labour groups and sent by the Japanese to various islands under their temporary control.
